Private beta
Install Cogdex on your Mac
One app. Nothing is uploaded. The first launch downloads the private engine (a few gigabytes, once). After that it works with Wi-Fi off.
-
1
Download
Apple silicon only (M1 or newer), macOS 12 or later, 8 GB of memory.
By downloading you agree to the Terms of Use. Cogdex asks you to accept them again the first time it opens.
-
2
Drag to Applications
Open the disk image and drag Cogdex into the Applications folder.
-
3
Allow it once
macOS will warn that Apple cannot verify Cogdex. That is expected for this beta: the app is not yet signed with an Apple developer certificate.
Open Anyway
The one-time Gatekeeper step
-
1
Open Cogdex
From Applications, double-click Cogdex. A warning appears. Click Done or OK — do not move it to the Trash.
-
2
Open Privacy & Security
Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security. Scroll to the Security section.
-
3
Click Open Anyway
Next to “Cogdex was blocked”, click Open Anyway, then confirm. You only do this once. After that, Cogdex opens like any other app.
If you do not see “Open Anyway”, Control-click Cogdex in Applications, choose Open, then click Open in the dialog.
Then
Stay on Setup until it says Ready
First launch downloads the private engine and the assistant. Keep the Mac awake and online. When Setup says Ready, drop files into your Cogdex folder and ask a question.
Your data
Where Cogdex keeps things
Everything stays on your Mac. Cogdex keeps the text it reads from your documents, your chats and what you ask it to remember in a database in your Library folder.
Cogdex does not encrypt that database itself. It is protected by your Mac's login password and by FileVault, if it is on (System Settings → Privacy & Security → FileVault). Time Machine backs it up like any other file, so a backup disk holds a copy too. Anyone who can sign in to your Mac account can read it.
Uninstall
Remove Cogdex completely
- In Cogdex, open Setup, choose Export memory if you want a copy, then Delete all Cogdex data. This erases the index, chats, saved memory and reminders. Your original files are not touched.
- Quit Cogdex and drag it from Applications to the Trash.
-
To also remove the private engine and the AI models (about 2.5 GB), open Finder,
choose Go → Go to Folder, and move each of these to the Trash:
~/Library/Application Support/Cogdex~/Library/Logs/Cogdex~/Library/LaunchAgents/ai.cogdex.expiry.plist(expiry reminders)~/Library/Caches/com.cogdex.app~/Library/WebKit/com.cogdex.app~/Library/Preferences/com.cogdex.app.plist
- Empty the Trash. Your Cogdex folder of documents is yours to keep or delete.
